People often ask me what’s the one thing I enjoy most about being the Chief Humanist at HUMAN. This is a tough question for me to answer when there are so many elements of HUMAN that I immensely enjoy. How do I pick just one? It’s tough!

You can find my answer ABOVE and HERE. But let me explain further…

The two main areas we focus on at HUMAN are (i) the development & creation of socially-minded entrepreneurs, and (ii) the promotion of convenient nutrition. I’m deeply passionate about each of these areas, and as a result, working around-the-clock at HUMAN is certainly hard work, BUT many times it doesn’t feel like work at all.

Sure, the hours are long, the accumulated sweat is significant, and our attempts to create positive social change in communities across the country are not always greeted with open arms (especially by those who promote junk food). But that’s alright…because in the words of Richard Branson, “I don’t think of work as work and play as play. It’s all living.”

And this is what I love most about working at HUMAN – it doesn’t feel like work, but rather, it feels like it’s just my life. I’m surrounded by the same people at work that I’d want to hang out with outside of work. Oh wait, I do hang out with everyone at HUMAN outside of work! Because when you’re doing what you love and are passionate about, and are surrounded by people that believe what you believe, it all just blends together. At HUMAN, it’s not “work” – it’s living.

And that’s when you know that you’re doing something you should be doing – you realize that there is no such thing as work vs. play. It’s all your life, and you need to make the most of it. Do you feel the same way?

Enjoying your life and enjoying your work are important. In THIS article that I recently wrote and was published in the Association of YMCA Professionals, I talk about how to optimize your work-life balance, and get the most out of this amazing thing we call “life.”
