An Irish Toast from HUMAN CEO, Sean Patrick Kelly:

Pardon me friends, because this is an inappropriate toast, especially for this medium…the ever-so-noble Crush It Report.

My Irish ways have taken over and gotten the best of me…and I’ve been drinking green beer…so there is nothing else for me to do but…

Cheers to you with a toast about Cheating, Stealing, Fighting, and, of course, Drinking.

If you must Cheat…may you Cheat Death.

If you must Steal…may you Steal the Heart of a Woman (or Man).

If you must Fight…may you Fight for a Brother.

And if you absolutely must Drink…may you Drink with me!

I wish you and yours a very happy, healthy, and fun St. Patrick’s Day.  Thank you for your continued support.

We feel the luck of the Irish upon us being in the midst of such great company!

Sean Kelly

Happy St. Patrick’s Day

Note From the Founders: We Need Your Help!

As you likely know, we at HUMAN are very green (eco-friendly, branding/graphic colors, etc). Thus, it’s natural for us to like green beer (at least on St. Patrick’s Day).

Furthermore, we were recently selected as one of the Top 3 Finalists for Ultimate Marketer of the Year (out of more than 10,000 users) by our CRM company, Infusionsoft.

We’re very grateful for this nod, and feel we owe it to many things. One of these things is our attitude. At HUMAN we wear our heart on our sleeves and allow our inner-spirit, no matter how different it may be, to come out in everything we do. Our communication, our marketing materials, the way we act at the warehouse…we’re not afraid of who we are and don’t feel like we need to hide anything.  Because of this, we may not be the right fit for everyone, but that’s ok.

We don’t want to be the right fit for everyone – we want to be the right fit for people who are the right fit for us!

So what’s the lesson here? Harness your “inner-weirdness” and celebrate the person you are, no matter how different you may be.  Being different is a good thing! The majority of the people in this world are poor, unhappy and unhealthy.  Thus, isn’t it good to be different?  We certainly don’t want to be the same!

Considering all of this, we feel that drinking green beer, and telling people that we like green beer, has lead to our success and our nomination for the Ultimate Marketer of the Year prize. And of course…

We couldn’t do it without you, our loyal customers and supporters. This award is ALL of ours to win…together, let’s become Ultimate Marketer of the Year!

Starting early next week, we will be traveling to Gilbert Arizona for InfusionCon 2011, where we will be sharing our story in a 30-minute presentation to an audience of over 1,000 people while competing for the title of this years “Ultimate Marketer”.  The top prize is worth $6,000, but the real victory for us will be the exposure.  Any chance we have to tell our story to a large audience is an opportunity to spread our message and potentially expand our business.

But we will need more than just the luck of the Irish to win the title of Ultimate Marketer!  Help us out by voting for us on Facebook next Wednesday, March 23rd. Please go to the Infusionsoft Facebook Page and click like.  On Wednesday the voting will take place on their Facebook Page and we will be sending out a reminder.

So, as you can see through this brilliant (or rather, not so brilliant logic), drinking green beer can help you become Ultimate Marketer of the Year!

As you move forward and start up your business, who do you want helping your business grow?  You could go at it alone, but if there is anything 21st century business has taught us, it’s that partnerships make all the difference. Hopefully next St. Patrick’s day you will be with us next year at HUMAN headquarters polishing off a green beer and looking back at 2011 as the year you decided to follow your passion and capitalize on an amazing healthy vending opportunity.

Marketing 101: Be Different…Win Accounts

“For a business not to advertise is like winking at a girl in the dark. You know what you are doing but no one else does.”

Marketing is everything in the business world, and there are too many companies with great ideas and concepts that fail because they are not able to market them to consumers.

Many people get caught up in the launching of a business, but the truth is launching your start-up is the just a small part of the equation.  The fate of a company is decided not by how you start, it is decided by how you adapt. Unless you can continue to increase sales and improve your reputation, a start-up business will remain just that, a start-up.

Here is a marketing tip to try on your next location meeting.

Marketing Tip For Locations

Next time you want to set a meeting with a top location in your area, find out who is in charge of making decisions regarding vending.  You have a distinct advantage over every other vending company in the country because, you are actually providing something GOOD for the location you are trying to partner with.  One problem you may run in to when expanding is that many locations are solicited constantly, and don’t want to hear another “sales pitch”.  In order to lock down premium locations you need to market yourself differently.

Every day on your route, make an extra stop at your potential location and drop off one healthy snack or beverage to the decision maker.  Include a quick handwritten note explaining the reason you are dropping off the snacks, and make sure you pass along your marketing materials.

Continue providing one snack/drink + a note for 4 to 5 days, and in your final note ask them to give you 10-minutes of their time and sit down with you for a meeting.

An example sequence:

Note 1: “Hello, my name is (enter your name) with Human Healthy Vending and I wanted to drop off this snack to remind you of the importance of healthy snacking.  Enjoy!”

Note 2: “I hope you enjoyed my last (enter snack name), here is another one for you to try as well as some information about our program.  Best in health, (enter your name)”

Note 3: “I hope you are having a fantastic day. Did you like the (enter snack name)? I would love to set up a meeting with you to discuss how I can provide these snacks to your location for free. Please call me at (enter number) to set up a meeting. Best in health, (enter your name)”

Note 4: “I hope you are having a nice day.  I would like to sit down with you for 10 minutes to discuss the addition of our free healthy vending program to your location.  Please call me at (enter number) so we can set up a time that works for you. Best in health, (enter your name)”

The investment on your part is minimal (15 minutes a day plus $0.50 per snack), you are providing education and value to the person in charge of vending, and the potential return is HUGE if you can lock down a premium location.
